Retreat Planning Tips

Let’s start the year with some much needed info.

If your retreat business marketing plan still looks like:

  • “Find some keywords”
  • “Post more on Instagram”
  • “Hope people find my site”

…you’re truly already behind.

Not because you’re bad at business.
Not because retreats are oversaturated.
But because search has fundamentally changed – and most retreat leaders haven’t caught up yet.

AI doesn’t care how long you’ve been hosting retreats.
It doesn’t care how “transformational” your work is.
It doesn’t care that your last retreat sold out.

AI cares about clarity, structure, relevance, and data.

And if your retreat business isn’t optimized for that reality, you’re invisible in the places people are now searching.

The Big Shift No One’s Talking About in the Retreat Industry

For years, we were taught:
“Pick keywords. Write blogs. Rank on Google.”

That marketing era is fading.

Today, people are asking:

  • ChatGPT
  • Google AI Overviews
  • Perplexity
  • Voice search
  • Marketplace search tools

And these tools are no longer ranking content based on who yells the loudest or who’s been around the longest (hear that last part loudly).

They’re ranking:

  • Clear offers
  • Structured pages
  • Relevant answers
  • Brands that actually explain what they do and who they serve

Translation for retreat leaders:
If AI can’t understand your retreat business, it won’t recommend it.

AI Doesn’t Care That Your Retreat Is “Life-Changing”

I know – it stings a little.

Your retreat is powerful.  Your work does change lives.

But AI doesn’t read emotion.  It reads structure.

If your site says things like:

  • “A transformative experience”
  • “A soul-aligned journey”
  • “A sacred container”

…but never clearly explains:

  • Who the retreat is for
  • What problem it solves
  • Where it happens
  • How long it is
  • Why it’s different

Then AI skips right over you.

No optimization?
No visibility.
No placements.
No bookings.

Retreat Business Visibility Is Now “Search Everywhere”

Your retreat business doesn’t just need SEO.
It needs Search-Everywhere Optimization.

That means:

  • Your website
  • Your blog posts
  • Your retreat pages
  • Your images
  • Your FAQs
  • Your podcast episodes
  • Your interviews
  • Your bios

All of it needs to clearly answer the questions people are asking – in language both humans and AI understand.

Because when someone types:
“best stress reduction retreat for women”
or
“how to host a profitable retreat”
or
“retreat business coach”

AI is deciding who gets shown.

And it’s not guessing.

This Is Where Most Retreat Leaders Lose Momentum

I see retreat leaders doing incredible work – and still struggling to fill retreats – because:

  • Their site is vague
  • Their messaging is outdated
  • Their content isn’t structured for AI
  • Their brand is invisible outside social media

Social media is rented land.  AI-driven search is the new real estate.

If your retreat business isn’t showing up there, you’re building on sand.

This Is the Work That Compounds (or Costs You)

Here’s the part most people miss:

AI visibility compounds.  So does invisibility.

Every month you delay:

  • Someone else becomes the “go-to”
  • Someone else gets cited
  • Someone else builds authority
  • Someone else fills retreats you could be hosting

This isn’t about panic.  It’s about leadership (and showing up the right way).

The retreat leaders adapting now are going to dominate the next 3–5 years.
The rest will be stuck chasing likes and wondering what changed (or worse, avoiding AI because it isn’t human).

What This Means for Your Retreat Business in 2026

2026 isn’t about:

  • Posting more
  • Hustling harder
  • Launching louder

It’s about small shifts that lead to visibility through:

  • Clear positioning
  • AI-readable content
  • Structured retreat pages
  • Strategic visibility
  • Systems that work while you sleep

This is exactly why I’m so fired up heading into the new year.

And it’s exactly what we’re diving deep into at the Retreat Industry Forum.

An Invitation (Because This Work Is Better Done in the Room)

If you want your retreat business to:

  • Be found in AI search
  • Show up in Google and everywhere else
  • Stop relying on social media
  • Build visibility that compounds

Then you need to be in the room.

At the Retreat Industry Forum, we’re breaking down:

  • AI + SEO for retreat businesses
  • How to structure your site and offers
  • How to future-proof your marketing
  • What actually works now (not 2019 advice)

This isn’t theory.  This is implementation.

Get in the room
Because the retreat leaders who adapt now will be the ones everyone else is trying to catch up to next year.
